FF #019: This "Cold" Message Got Me To Buy A $2,000/mo Service

I get a good 3-5 cold emails and DMs ever day.

Most of them are terrible.

Straight to the trash.

But a couple weeks ago... one caught my attention.

And I ultimately ended up buying a "high-ticket" service from it.

I think there's a ton you could learn from the way this guy did it.

So today I'll share...

The Cold Message That Got Me To Buy A $2,000 Per Month Service.

The offer was for a YouTube and short-form editing and repurposing service.

I shoot a video. He edits it, creates the thumbnail, does the title+keywords, and uploads to my channel.

Then he slices it up into short-form content for Shorts/Reels/TikToks.

An all-in-one service where all I have to do is create.

Pretty freaking sweet hey?

So first, let's take a look at the message he sent me on Twitter:

This isn't the entire conversation.

The next few messages were of him sharing his packages.

But I was sold within a few messages without ever talking to him over Zoom or phone call.

So let's break down how you can send cold messages that get clients too.

#1: Find prospects with intent.

I left a little detail out.

Which is I posted a tweet that said "looking to hire a YouTube video editor for 4 videos a month. DM me with your portfolio."

I'm showing intent to hire... i.e. PAY someone... to edit my YouTube videos.

Most cold emailers just guess on this.

They build lists of thousands of prospects and brute force their way to finding someone who has intent.

I'm not saying it doesn't work. Hell it's what I used to do.

But if you find someone with intent you can skip the spray and pray.

So how do you do that?

An EZ way is job boards.

  • Indeed, Monster, AngelList, Hired, Zip Recruiter
  • LinkedIn Jobs
  • Craigslist
  • UpWork
  • Groups
  • Searching by keywords

Everyone who posts a job is expressing intent to PAY someone for a specific job.

The guy that reached out to me had keyword alerts on Twitter for anyone who's hiring for "video editor" or "YouTube editor".

He reached out at the perfect time.

And because he knew I had "intent", he wasn't wasting his time offering something I didn't need.

So leverage job boards where prospects are expressing intent to hire for a specific project and you'll make it much easier to get a positive response.

#2: Show proof of similar clients.

The reason I asked for a portfolio in my tweet was I want to see if you've helped anyone similar to me.

I'm a digital creator/entrepreneur in the online bizness niche.

So if your videos are of a beauty brand selling lipstick or some shid... then it doesn't apply to me.

Notice in his cold message he name dropped 2 other well-known creators who are in the same industry?

Smart.

When I went to his portfolio site he had many more live examples showing final edits of his videos with other creators in the online biz niche.

So now he's shown his ability while also being relevant to my specific situation.

Now... if you don't have proof yet?

Step #1 is for you to get that... but that's a conversation for another time.

Onto the last step...

#3: Make a delicious offer specific to the person.

My first response to him was "awesome work man. What's your rates?"

He told me $250 per video.

But he had an even better package that would address a few other problems I had.

He found a tweet of me talking about wanting to get into short form content but not wanting to spend the time.

And another tweet about spending way too much time with YouTube channel management.

So he gave me a pretty delicious offer that would solve all of that.

He would do:

  • 4 YouTube videos per month
  • 20 shorts per month
  • Keyword and title research
  • Thumbnails
  • Uploading to YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok

For one fee of $2,000/mo.

It was specific to my situation so it was an "EZ Yes!" from me.

By taking care of all this in one package?

I'm able to focus on creating higher quality content... which should hopefully help me to grow my audience and income faster.

It'd take me 10-20 hours to do all this myself at much lower quality.

Now I don't have to worry about it.

As you can see... nothing crazy magical about this cold message.

He saw I had intent, reached out with proof that he's helped clients similar to me, and gave me a customized delicious offer that would solve many of the problems I was running into with my content.

Start applying these concepts to your cold outreach and I'm sure you'll increase your chances of landing clients too.

Alrighty...

That's it for today's Friday Fire action section.

Hope you found it useful.
